PRAGUE FILM & TELEVISION SCHOOL OF THE ACADEMY OF THE PERFORMING ARTS

 

The Prague Film and Television School of the Academy of the Performing Arts (FAMU) is one of the preeminent film schools in Central Europe. It is one of the three schools that comprise the Academy of Performing Arts and one of the oldest film schools in Europe. Many influential filmmakers and screenwriters are FAMU alumni, including Stanislav Barabas and Oscar-winners Milos Forman and Agnieszka Holland. FAMU offers professional film production facilities including digital Betacam, HDV, and 16mm and 35mm film for student work.

Academic Information

You take two core courses in film production (taught by FAMU faculty), one language class (taught by CET), and enroll in one to three FAMU International electives (taught by FAMU faculty). Faculty

Students work in groups of 3-4 to see their short film through every stage, and work alongside professionals and under the guidance of an experienced FAMU mentor. You leave Prague with a project for your portfolio, a better sense of the ins and outs of the film industry, and the confidence and skills to take on your next creative endeavor.

  • Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance
  • GPA: 3.0 or higher preferred, but admissions decisions are made on a
  • Prev exp in film/visual arts/photo highly recommended, not required
  • 35mm film: Previous experience with 16mm is required
  • Must be 18 or older at the time of program participation

Housing

Share an off-campus apartment (2-6 people) with CET peers and local Czech students. Apartments come with fully equipped kitchen, common area, shared bathroom, in-unit washing machine, Wifi access, linens, towels, basic furnishing, and kitchenware. Students dine in Prague's many cafes and restaurants, or cook for themselves at home.

Program Cost

Students will pay $75 application fee, $19/wk overseas insurance, and a $600 affiliated studies registration fee to UT Austin. Students pay an application and program fee (tuition, housing) to CET. See provider website for more details. Federal financial aid and scholarships apply for full-time semester (12) enrollment.
