San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, is a diverse, cosmopolitan city surrounded by mountains. San Jose is the capital and largest city of Costa Rica and the focal point of political and economic activity, and the major transportation hub of this Central American nation.

API offers two programs in San Jose, Costa Rica. Students can choose to study development, community engagement, and health through the International Center for Development Studies(ICDS). Alternatively, students can study business, arts/design, biology, history, sustainability, Spanish and more at Veritas University.

During the program, students have the opportunity to broaden their classroom education through several organized excursions, which are included in the price of the program. API also organizes social and cultural activities.

Academic Information

API has multiple tracks during the semester and summer. All programs through either the International Center for Development Studies or with Universidad Veritas. Each tracks has unique SPN language requirement. For UT, Summer tracks must be at least 6 weeks long. Not all programs meet this req.

Students in San Jose live with local host families. Host families serve as a unique introduction into Costa Rican culture. Students may be housed with other API or international students, and in all cases will have an individual room. Students are provided with two meals per day, as well as laundry service once per week.

Program Cost

API program costs will vary based on the track you choose and the duration (semester or summer). API offers scholarships, as does UT. You must refer to the API website for a detailed listing of program dates and fees. NOTE, only summer programs with a duration of 6 weeks or longer are approved.
