Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, founded over 100 years ago, plays a premier role as one of the hubs of academic research and exchange in Japan. It specializes in humanities and sociology with the aim of developing global human resources.

Students are able to take multiple languages in addition to Japanese on this program.

This program is in its inaugural year. Spring 2019 dates are tentative and subject to change.

Academic Information

Students must enroll in the equivalent of 12 UT hours of coursework per semester while at TUFS. Please check the My Credit Abroad database for courses that have been previously evaluated. If your courses are not listed, please work with your Program Coordinator to get courses pre-approved.

Faculty

If students are taking coursework abroad in English, prior Japanese study is encouraged but not required. English-taught courses are primarily in Humanities and Area studies. Please see Exchange Partner Information.

Housing

TUFS can arrange housing for students. Options include dorms or apartment style accommodations. Students wishing to have housing arranged for them must submit a housing application to TUFS.

Program Cost

Students pay a $75 non-refundable application fee and regular UT tuition, and are responsible for airfare, passport/visa, housing, food, local transportation, and other costs of living. Students are required to purchase international health insurance. Financial aid and scholarships may be used.

This program may require participation for an entire academic year.
