MAYMESTER: SOCIAL JUSTICE AND SECURITY POLICIES IN CENTRAL EUROPE

 

The Center for Russian Eastern, European, and Eurasian Studies (CREEES) in cooperation with Collegium Civitas in Warsaw, Poland, is offering a three-credit lecture/discussion program with four potential field study components in-country. This program will include a Spring course component at The University of Texas at Austin and a field study component in Poland during May-June. In this program, students will be introduced to a general overview of social justice and security policy studies at UT, after which they will have an opportunity to delve in-depth into one of four topics in Poland, working closely with experts in one of the following fields:

(a) Road to Democracy in Central and Eastern Europe; (b) Security Policy in Central Europe and Poland; (c) Cyber-security Issues and Policy in Poland; and (d) The Criminal Justice System in Poland.

Academic Information

In the spring at UT, students will be introduced to a general overview of Central and East European politics and history, as well as security issues. On site in Poland, students will have an opportunity to delve in-depth into one of the special interest course topics with lectures by local professionals and academics.

Faculty

Dr. Lorinc Redei received his Ph.D in International Relations and European Studies from Central European University. He teaches on Policy and International Affairs and Diplomacy. He writes about European politics, the European Union-especially its foreign and security policy.

Program Cost

The program fee for participation in the Maymester will be $4,500 (or less depending on number of student enrolled) and will cover all in-country housing including breakfast, cost of in-country courses and materials, in-country excursions and related transportation, as well as group meals. Students are responsible for additional costs.
