UT faculty member Dr. Thomas Connolly takes students to Toulouse and Barcelona to study a required course in engineering dynamics, explore real world engineering applications, and visit engineering companies and national laboratories to learn about the practice of engineering in France and Spain. Students spend four weeks in Toulouse and one week in Barcelona from late May to early July. Located in the Occitanie region of France, beautiful and historic Toulouse is a major hub of the European aerospace and defense industry. Just over the Pyrenees Mountains from southern France, Barcelona is a vibrant city with a large manufacturing base, artistic engineering and architectural achievements. Students learn the fundamentals of kinematics and dynamics, as applied to particles and rigid bodies, and solve a broad variety of engineering dynamics problems using Newton's laws, energy methods, and momentum methods. The course concludes with an introduction to vibrations and computer methods.
