MAYMESTER: PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND ECONOMICS

This Maymester course introduces students to project management and economics. The interactive and project-based course features visits to transportation and tourism infrastructure, building construction, and oil refinery projects; interviews with local engineering firms and government infrastructure groups.

Class will be taught by UT faculty at local universities in Fortaleza and Rio de Janeiro. The first 2.5 weeks of the program will be in Fortaleza, located in Northeastern Brazil and known for eco-tourism and year-long warm beaches. Fortaleza is a growing urban center, with many examples of both vertical and horizontal construction projects. The last 10 days of the program will be in Rio de Janeiro, the first capital of Brazil and second most populous city in the country. Rio is known for its laid-back, beach-life scene. It has a rich cultural heritage and also houses petrochemical plants.
