- London, England
From the 18th century to the 20th, the United Kingdom was a leader in the Industrial Revolution. Factories were built all across Britain, making everything from saddles to sedans. And it was engineers and designers, most educated and working in London, who made all of that possible. This history is still much in evidence in London today, from the Royal College of Art to the Victoria & Albert Museum. The program will explore the city's historical relationship with engineering design, as well as the challenges presented by de-industrialization and new technologies in recent decades. Combining site visits and readings in design philosophy, the course has been designed to teach you both the importance of documentation in engineering and the unique legacy in this field that Britain bequeathed the world.
