MAY TERM ABROAD: AIR POLLUTION ENGINEERING

This course is centered on the health impacts of air pollution, types of air pollutants, pollution sources, and monitoring and control strategies. It covers a variety of fields from power generation to transportation to indoor air sources and also includes discussions of sustainability and energy transitions. A major theme incorporated into the course is environmental justice from the lens of quantifying exposures and identifying controls and other mitigation approaches to reduce human exposure to hazardous air pollutants. We will use Madrid, one of the largest urban areas in Spain, to explore these themes and engage in the research already being done in the capital to mitigate the harmful impacts of air pollution.
