- London, England
Architecture - of a room, building, square, urban sequence, landscape - is today almost exclusively communicated through photography. But conventional architectural photography is notoriously limited in what it can convey, favoring form over other important factors, like experience, spatial and historical context, social equity, environmental conditions, and so forth, that give built space value. The rise of after-Modern art, digital technologies, and social media have changed our understanding of how a photograph can be made, what its interactions are with other media, and what we consider a photograph to be. We will use London, with its rich and superbly available architecture, to explore and experiment with how architectural meaning and experience can be conveyed through photography and related media. [Course open to architecture, art, engineering, and communications majors; other majors with approval of instructors].
