Oberlin University provides UT students with a rich learning
environment in Machida City, a mid-sized, vibrant city located in the
western part of the greater metropolis of Tokyo. Machida is a
relatively young city, founded in 1958.
Oberlin University's Reconnaissance Japan Program offers Japanese
language courses at various levels, as well as a variety of content
courses geared for foreign students, which are taught in English.
Students with exceptional Japanese language skills may take regular
university courses alongside local students.
This program has limited capacity.

Students must enroll in the equivalent of 12 UT hours of coursework per semester while at Obirin University. Please check the My Credit Abroad database for courses that have been previously evaluated. If your courses are not listed, please work with your Program Coordinator to get courses pre-approved.

- Minimum 2.5 GPA, good academic standing.
- No pending disciplinary cases with the Dean of Students.
- Japanese language evaluation of 610D or higher.
- Seniors can not participate during their last semester at UT.

Students may choose to live in dormitory-style housing or find housing independently. The different housing options vary in distance from campus.

Program Cost
Students pay a $75 non-refundable application fee and regular UT tuition, and are responsible for airfare, passport/visa, housing, food, local transportation, and other costs of living. Students are required to purchase international health insurance. Financial aid and scholarships may be used.
