Sophia University is a private research university. Sophia provides a supportive environment in which UT students can study at one of Japan's top-ranked private universities. Students enroll in Sophia University courses alongside Japanese and other international students.

Students applying for the AY2019-2020 program are encouraged to apply asap via the MySAO portal in order to have sufficient time to complete the secondary application to Sophia University.

Academic Information

Students must enroll in the equivalent of 12 UT hours of coursework per semester while at Sophia University. Please check the My Credit Abroad database for courses that have been previously evaluated. If your courses are not listed, please work with your Program Coordinator to get courses pre-approved.

Faculty

If students are taking coursework abroad in English, prior Japanese study is encouraged but not required. English-taught courses are primarily in Liberal arts and Green Science program. Please see Exchange Partner Information.

Housing

Sophia University can arrange housing for students. Options include dorms or apartment style accommodations. Some options include meals, internet and utilities and costs will range. Students should research all options carefully. Most Sophia housing is NOT near the campus and will require commute of 30-40 minutes by train.

Program Cost

Students pay a $75 non-refundable application fee and regular UT tuition, and are responsible for airfare, passport/visa, housing, food, local transportation, and other costs of living. Students are required to purchase international health insurance. Financial aid and scholarships may be used.
