- Porto Alegre, Brazil
The Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) offers UT
students thr opportunity to take a variety of university courses,
taught in Portuguese, alongside local students at the leading
university of southern Brazil. UFRGS has a campus downtown and a
suburban campus. To improve their Portuguese skills, UFRGS offers
Portuguese classes for foreigners and also matches students with a
"Brazilian Friend," to facilitate integration into the local culture.
Porto Alegre, the capital of the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul,
is known for its "gaucho" (cowboy) culture. The state has numerous
European immigrants and is bordered by Argentina and Uruguay.
Participants earn regular UT in-residence credit. All grades earned
for the courses taken are computed into the official UT Austin GPA,
