The University of Cape Town is internationally recognized as one of Africa's leading research universities. A range of commercial, medical, recreational, and sporting facilities is available on campus. These include a swimming pool, gymnasium, basketball, tennis, badminton and squash courts, and a weight room.

The CIEE Service-Learning program offers an integrated approach to learning and community involvement. The program enables students to be active in service, while giving them opportunities to reflect upon the complexities and challenges facing Cape Town specifically and South Africa in general.

There are 2 programs with a wide variety of disciplines on offer, an Arts & Sciences track and a Service-Learning track.

Academic Information

ARTS & SCIENCES PROGRAM enrolls directly into UCT classes with CIEE, South African, and other international students. SUMMER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & SOCIAL JUSTICE has courses for CIEE students only. SUMMER GLOBAL INTERNSHIPS are non-paying positions and OPEN CAMPUS BLOCKS allow for 6, 12 or 18 wks engagement.

Faculty

Situated on the southernmost tip of Africa, University of Cape Town (UCT) allows you to study history, politics, South African society, anthropology, literature, film, gender studies, business, economics, engineering, communication, media community health, international relations, STEM, and more in English at CIEE Cape Town.

Housing

Depending on the program, students live in an apartment-style residence campus and share the residence with fellow CIEE program participants, University of Cape Town residence hall with South African or other African students or a homestay with a South African Family.

Program Cost

Students will pay $75 application fee, $19/wk overseas insurance, and a $600 affiliated studies registration fee to UT Austin and program fee (application, tuition, housing) to CIEE. See the provider website for details. Federal financial aid and scholarships apply for full-time summer (6 credits)/semester (12) enrollment.
