UT-Austin students have the opportunity to study on exchange at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) located in Sydney, Australia. Founded in 1949, UNSW is a leading research university in the Australasia region, and has over 50,000 students, 30% of whom are international.

UNSW's main campus is located just 4 miles from the center of Sydney and is a 20 minute walk to Coogee beach.

Academic Information

Students are required to do the Tailored Semester. This university's academic structure is based on a modular course system. Advanced understanding of content required. Students with appropriate prerequisites can take any combination of undergraduate courses.

Faculty

Courses taught by local faculty. Students have fewer contact hours with professors than they would have in the US. Students are expected to do extensive research and reading outside of class.

Students generally live in dormitory-style housing. Students must choose on- or off-campus. A single room with bath is standard. Some do have religious affiliations.

Program Cost

Students pay a $75 application fee, a $500 Exchange Fee and regular UT tuition for every semester. Students are responsible for airfare, passport/VISA, housing, local transportation and general living expenses. Financial aid and scholarships may be used.

IMPORTANT - The term dates at UNSW change significantly beginning Spring 2019. Students will take 1 course over 4 week period, then 3 courses over a 10 week period. UNSW offers a wide selection of classes which fulfill core, business, and elective requirements.

Housing

Most local students live at home or in private apartments. On-campus university accommodations are available. Exchange students are encouraged to apply for housing through the UNSW Study Abroad Office. It is best to arrive before the start of program to allow time to look for suitable private accommodations.

Program Cost

Students pay a $75 application fee, $500 Exchange Admin fee, and regular UT tuition for their semester exchange. Students are responsible for airfare, passport/VISA, housing, transportation, and costs of living. Participants pay required emergency health insurance coverage at $19 per week. Financial aid and scholarships can be used.
