Victoria University of Wellington offers UT students an excellent opportunity to take a variety of courses alongside local students. Specifically, this university is known for its academic rigor in cell and molecular bioscience, conservation, earth sciences, film, geophysics, management, political science, and psychology. Victoria University is located in Wellington on the southern tip of New Zealand's North Island and is one of the oldest universities in New Zealand. Of the 17,000 students studying at Victoria, more than 3,000 are international students. The city of Wellington is centrally located, and provides visitors with an abundance of activities that include surfing on unspoiled beaches and snowboarding on snow-capped mountains.

Academic Information

Victoria University Wellington (VUW) has course offerings in a wide variety of subjects, including architecture, business, journalism, liberal arts, sciences and natural sciences. Students may take courses they have the appropriate background. Some courses have limited entry.

Faculty

Courses taught by local faculty. Students have fewer contact hours with professors than they would have in the U.S. Students are expected to do extensive research and reading outside of class.

Housing

There are several options for exchange students studying at Victoria University. However, housing is very tight in Wellington. Spring students apply for on-campus housing by October 1st. Housing is not guaranteed. students may have an easier time securing off-campus accommodation.

Program Cost

Students pay one-time $75 app fee, a $500 Exchange fee and regular UT tuition. Students are responsible for airfare, passport/VISA, housing, food, transport, and costs of living. Financial aid and scholarships may be used.Additional scholarships are available through the New Zealand Education program and the Gilman International Scholarship.
