General Information

What is dual enrollment?

Dual enrollment refers to the two separate courses in which you are enrolled: a high school course implemented by a high school teacher and a distance college course implemented by a university Instructor of Record. Depending on your performance, you may earn high school credit, college credit, both high school credit and college credit, or neither high school nor college credit.

What is academic integrity?

Academic integrity means being honest in your academic work. It is an essential value for any educational institution, including high schools and colleges. As a student in an OnRamps course, you are subject to the University of Texas at Austin’s academic integrity policies. You cannot use unauthorized materials to complete assignments. You cannot substitute or allow another student to substitute for you to complete an assignment. The UT Austin Instructor of Record or the assignment instructions will make clear for each college assignment whether collaboration is allowed and what types of tools may be utilized.

To learn more, view the academic integrity module in the OnRamps Student Orientation, refer to the Academic Integrity section of your course syllabus, or review The University of Texas at Austin catalog, Chapter 11, Student Conduct and Academic Integrity.

What is a course syllabus?

The course syllabus is a document that provides important information about your OnRamps course and can be found in the Canvas college course. The syllabus includes information about college course expectations and rules, exams, homework assignments, grading, deadlines, technology requirements, and how to contact course staff for help. You are responsible for reading and understanding all information that appears in the course syllabus.

If I receive an accommodation in a high school course, may I receive the same accommodation in my OnRamps college course?

If you receive high-school accommodations related to a disability under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, you may also receive certain accommodations in your OnRamps course. Accommodations in an OnRamps course must follow accommodations in your Individual Education Plan or 504 Individual Accommodation Plan and be allowable under the university assessment practices. Accommodations are individualized and based on need and disability.

How do I request an accommodation for my distance college course?

You may request an accommodation for an OnRamps course by clicking the Additional Information button on the Current Enrollments web page.

If you need accommodations, you must inform the university Instructor of Record before the due date for an assignment in order to receive accommodations for that assignment. You are strongly encouraged to provide information about your accommodations needs during registration, at the beginning of the course, or immediately following changes to your Individual Education Plan or 504.

Eligibility

What is eligibility?

Eligibility refers to whether or not you meet the criteria to be eligible for the opportunity to earn college credit. There are two eligibility statuses: eligible and ineligible.

You will be eligible for the opportunity to earn college credit if you meet grade-based standards on your college coursework. The minimum grade for eligibility is a D-.

Students with eligible status who earn college credit have the option to accept or decline the college credit at the end of the academic period.

If you do not meet grade-based standards or other eligibility requirements, your eligibility status is ineligible, and you are unable to earn college credit in the course. In some courses, if you do not meet grade-based standards, you may still meet eligibility through the Texas Success Initiative (TSI).

For more information about eligibility criteria for your course, consult the course syllabus.

Credit Type

What is credit type?

Credit type refers to the type of college credit that eligible students may earn in an OnRamps course, such as pass/fail or letter grade. For the 2019-2020 academic year and beyond, OnRamps students may only earn credit with a letter grade credit type.

This means that the letter grade you earn in the college course (A, B-, C+, etc.) will appear on your university transcript if you accept college credit at the end of the course.

Final Grade

What is final grade?

Final grade refers to the final letter grade that you earned in the college course. It is displayed on the Current Enrollments web page.

If you earn and accept college credit, the final letter grade will appear on your university transcript.

Credit Status & Credit Decision

What is credit status?

For each OnRamps course you complete, you are automatically assigned a credit status of Accepted, Declined, or No Credit, based on your final grade, as shown in the table below. If you earned credit, you have the option to change your credit status during the credit decision period for the course. All credit status changes must be made during the credit decision period for the course.

Final Grade Default Status What does this mean? Can you change the credit status during the credit decision period for the course?
A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, or C- Accepted You earned college credit and will have a university transcript for the course. Yes. You may change the credit status to Declined.
D+, D, or D- Declined You earned college credit but will not have a university transcript for the course. Yes. You may change the credit status to Accepted.
F No credit You did not earn college credit. You will not have a university transcript for the course. No.

When do I accept or decline my college credit?

If you are eligible to earn college credit, you may accept or decline credit during the credit decision period. The credit decision period is a five-day window that occurs on a Monday – Friday after you have received your final college grade. You will receive an email when your final grade is available and your credit decision period begins. Emails are sent on a rolling basis as grades are processed, so not all students are notified at the same time. If you are enrolled in multiple OnRamps courses, your courses may have different credit decision periods.

Where do I accept or decline my college credit?

You accept or decline your credit in the OnRamps Portal. When your credit decision period is open, you will see an Accept/Decline Credit button next to the enrollment on the Current Enrollments webpage. Click this button to make your credit decision.

Can I change my credit status after the credit decision period for the course?

No. Credit status changes must be made during the credit decision period for the course. If you do not change your credit status during the credit decision period OnRamps will use the credit status that is automatically assigned based on your final college grade. You cannot change your credit status after the end of the credit decision period.

Should I decline my credit if I got a lower final grade than I had hoped for?

You should consult the admissions office of any university that you may attend in order to understand their transfer credit policies. Many universities do not factor transfer credits into your college Grade Point Average (GPA), so depending on the college you may attend, you could accept your OnRamps credit and have the benefit of college credit without a negative impact to your college GPA in the future.

What if I'm still not sure if I should accept or decline my college credit?

Speak to a parent, guardian, college admission advisor, or high school academic counselor for assistance.
