Provide database administration, architecture and design for Oracle database environments at the University of Texas at Austin. Use skills and experience to work on complex technical problems by using or developing advanced concepts, with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures.
Provide primary support for Oracle databases, Oracle application, and secondary support for MySQL. Ensure that database performance is aligned to University business processes and usage peaks. Communicate information and issues clearly and succinctly with both technical and non-technical personnel. Assist with architectural strategy for database environments. Create database designs and implementations that support academic and business objectives. Define efficiency improvements and implementation of database policies and procedures for data security and integrity across heterogeneous database platforms. Define, implement, and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans and technologies to ensure resilience of database services.

Demonstrated experience in creating logical and physical database designs and implementations that support business objectives. Ability to define architectural and data model strategy for database design. Experience diagnosing causes of database performance problems and implement tuning and configuration changes to improve performance, increase efficiency, and ensure database capabilities meet peak demand levels. Experience defining, implementing, and testing disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure resilience of database services. Demonstrated experience in resolving highly complex issues involving databases and related technical domains. Exceptional collaborative skills, building relationships with application developers, system administrators, and other database administrators across the university required. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
SQL experience, both query and design (DDL). Demonstrated experience with database normalization, benchmarking and optimization. Project management skills and ability to lead large, complex technical projects. Record of developing project charters, timelines, technical deliverables, resource allocation, and task delegation. Record of timely completion of project milestones. Administration of MySQL database environments. Experience with scripting language (Python, Perl, etc). Experience with Linux.
