To work under the direction of the Data Center Mission Critical Engineer, support teams in the University Facilities organization, as well as with local contractors and vendors.

Essential Functions

Operate, monitor, maintain and respond to normal and abnormal conditions in facilities systems. Areas include Electrical, Mechanical and Building Monitoring Fire systems and Controls. Communications of current status and services being provided along with detailed customer interactions at tier 2 and tier 3 support levels. Subject matter Expert duties as assigned will maintain audit-able schedules, operational logs and journals on all events as required for compliance. Will be able to independently manage their performance of the majority of these requirements. Will have responsibility for leading and or providing direct support for medium to large scale data center technical installation projects, with average to high level of complexity. Will independently perform detailed analysis, resolve problems and monitor systems or processes to proactively prevent problems from occurring. Will oversee third party hardware installations as well as perform installations in the data center. Will collaborate with internal and external stake holders to ensure successful cross departmental projects. Will be required to provide and analyze report data for accuracy, provide statistical analysis, and supervise third party activities. Able to develop and enhance data center documentation and process, including emergency response and physical security management. Operate, monitor, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems. Areas include: electrical, mechanical, building monitoring and control. Must fully understand the data center business, use their skill sets to benefit the organization as a whole and ensure that all project deadlines are met or completed within timely fashion. This will include actively investigating the latest in power distribution and cooling principles, energy efficient operation strategies, and trends for continuous operations for data centers. May give direction to a team of data center operators and technicians. Develop and or implement new processes and procedures. Communicate, train, mentor staff. Provide ongoing technical and leadership expertise in supporting data centers. Capable of representing the department in a professional and knowledgeable manner. Able to serve as a data center liaison with management, applications, systems, network, user services, and other department customers. Develop future data center initiatives in order to meet needs for reliable data center operations.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

College or technical degree or any combination of experience. Experience in mechanical / HVAC, electrical, or a combination of the two. Minimum of 10 year?s experience working in building engineering or facilities maintenance role in a data center. Expert understanding of all data center equipment and architecture, and the protocols to operate and shut-down that equipment. Demonstrated expertise and knowledge of project planning and management concepts, methodologies, tools, standards, and procedures. Demonstrated technical and analytical skills. Working knowledge of information systems concepts. Capable of managing small to medium infrastructure projects and upgrades. Advanced knowledge of MS Office including Windows 2000 or later, Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and Project is required. Written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to work with in-house customers to gather and translate monitoring and reporting requirements; strong documentation skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of AutoCAD and VISIO 5.0 preferred. Strong business knowledge of change control policies, compliance, regulatory, life safety / risk assessment, methods and processes is instrumental. Demonstrated understanding of the basics of operational availability and the risks and threats to computers and networks, from activities associated with change control, installation, and maintenance of servers in a production data center.
