Assist in identifying network intrusions, vulnerabilities, and attacks, executing solutions to continuously improve security for the University. Responsible for building security alert mechanisms, primarily using Splunk.
Serve as a member of the Information Security Office's Incident Response team, providing incident response services to the UT Austin campus and many other entities throughout the state of Texas. Build alerting tools within Splunk to identify anomalies and critical security events.
Other related functions as assigned.
Bachelor's degree, training in information technology, information security or related experience in lieu of education. Three years experience in information security, secure system(s) administration, network security, auditing information technology, or experience resolving complex security issues in diverse, decentralized IT environments. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Bachelors degree with major field in Computer Science, or related computer, engineering, or technical field and five years required experience in network intrusion analysis, and security incident handling. Present or recent work experience at UT along with a basic understanding of architecture and operation of the University's technology infrastructure. One year customer support or help desk experience. Experience in investigating misuse and in incident handling. Current experience with network protocols and network monitoring techniques, and UNIX or Windows server security administration. Familiarity with vulnerability assessment tools, data integrity checking tools, network intrusion detection systems, commercial firewalls, and VPN systems. Working knowledge of UNIX, Windows, Cisco, DNS, and TCP/IP. Certification in information security or network technology (GCIH, etc).
