Purpose

Academic and career advising for students interested in teaching in a Liberal Arts field.

Essential Functions

Advises College of Liberal Arts students, who desire to pursue a career in teaching, individually and in groups, about the development of educational plans. Explains University and State certification examination requirements, and completes class schedules. Provides ongoing support services. May register students for classes. Completes and updates degree and certification plans (with much attention to detail). Maintains accurate records on student academic progress. Maintains a database. Monitors student academic information and curricula. Removes holds on student records. Creates and executes communication plan to students. Sends correspondence. Complies with all State and University policies. Other duties as assigned. Presents at student orientations. Works independently. Uses discretion in finding solutions. Makes judgments on significant matters.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree within area of assigned responsibility and minimum of two years of related experience. Outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, demonstrable computer expertise, and understanding of the goals of academic and career advising. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with liberal arts students in some capacity. Some teaching experience would be useful as well.
