Develops and maintains software to directly support the ITS Networking group's task of managing and operating the University's campus and residential networks, and supports Networking's 24x7 operations.

Essential Functions

Works in a team of developers to design, code, and integrate software and systems to support of the University's network operations. Configures, installs, and operates servers and services using custom developed, open-source, and commercial software, providing services for internal and external consumption. Configures, installs, and operates network equipment to support departmental networks on campus. Supports 24x7 operational responsibilities and participates in the Networking group's internal escalation path.

Other related functions as assigned.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Two or more years of current or recent professional experience in software development on open-source platforms (e.g. Linux, BSD). Experience working with web application technologies (e.g. CGI, Javascript, CSS, HTML). Working knowledge of server and systems administration using open-source platforms. Working knowledge of network technologies and communications protocols. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical and computer engineering, or equivalent work experience in network systems and technology. Experience developing software in Linux or other open source environments utilizing Perl, C/C++, Expect, MySQL, Javascript, and XML. Experience designing and coding interactive web user interfaces using AJAX, JSON, or similar frameworks. Experience installing and configuring services (e.g. web, databases, remote access, etc.) on Linux or other open source platforms.
