Lead technical teams with administrative control and responsibility for business critical systems and services at The University of Texas at Austin. Ensure long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are included in the overall information systems planning of the organization.

Essential Functions

The primary function of this position is to lead project teams which document, plan, and execute maintenance and changes for business-critical systems. Changes are motivated by the data collected in the other essential functions of this position. Audit hardware, operating system, application, and service logs or consoles, equipment loads and software performance with the aim to improve the reliability and performance of systems. Manage security, firewall, anti-malware, and backup systems to maintain appropriate data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Maintain and share knowledge of current technologies including software versions and hardware revisions. Maintain and share knowledge of emerging technologies, vulnerabilities, attack vectors, and countermeasures. Prepare and maintain system documentation including disaster recovery materials, licenses, warranties, contracts, inventories, life cycle plans, project plans and customer road maps. Ensure compliance with policies and configuration guidelines. Communicate with customers and colleagues through phone calls, voice mail, email, presentations, and publications Advise customers on business processes, systems, and planning in the near-term and long-term, as indicated.

Required qualifications

Systems administration training and five or more years of professional experience administering Linux servers. One or more years of professional experience with Microsoft Windows Server installation and administration. Demonstrated six months or more of experience in managing and designing enterprise level identity and access management infrastructures built upon ldap and oracle. Demonstrated six months or more of experience with managing systems supporting Confluence wikis and Wordpress blogs. Experience designing, building, and implementing complete disaster recovery for mission critical services built on an integrated environment utilizing a shared infrastructure including storage, databases, virtualization, networking, load balancing, etc. Demonstrated experience in leading different technical projects. Must be able to independently troubleshoot Linux, Windows, and network problems. Experience writing documentation for a technical audience describing problem, solution, and work efforts in various scenarios. Excellent customer focus and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Implements solutions to problems of diverse scope in specific areas, including data analysis to identify root cause and contributing factors. Demonstrates independent and correct judgment to perform all actions within job function. Assists in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures.
