Persons in the IT System Manager IV classification install, manage, and diagnose server, applications, or advanced data communications/voice communications equipment and software. They work with a great deal of independence and responsibility in the performance of their duties, which typically are for a large complex.
Support enterprise UNIX, Linux and Windows OS servers. Monitor performance and capacity of the server hardware and operating system and proactively address issues. Analyze system performance, propose and drive changes to improve environment stability and performance. Handle escalated tickets from the Help Desk and ensure their issues receive timely resolution and feedback. Provide tier 3 solutions via phone, email, or in-person in the general UNIX, Linux and Windows OS platforms as directed. Plan, install, configure, upgrade, test, and maintain servers running UNIX, Linux and Windows server OS and Microsoft and other third party applications. Ensure that all implemented solutions are compatible with other installed infrastructure solutions and that all system documentation is maintained current. Manage the implementation of infrastructure projects. Program, modify, test, and maintain in-house system extensions and software using scripting languages such as: PowerShell, VB, Python or Perl or other languages as directed. Maintain technical knowledge and skills current as installed technology changes. Propose upgrades and enhancements identify the impact of such changes, and recommend plans of action to Enterprise Systems and Operations management. Provide technical guidance to the lower level System Managers.

Bachelors Degree with coursework in computing or information systems and eight years of progressively responsible computer systems management and analysis experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required as appropriate to the technical field: Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department. Thorough knowledge of the methods and equipment used in electronic data processing, including system analysis and design, and computer programming techniques. Ability to install, integrate,and configure complex server hardware and software including Operating Systems and associated configurations. Ability to install, integrate, and configure advance data communications or telecommunications hardware and software. Strong skill in analyzing and solving complex computing problems. Ability to coordinate a work team and train lower level analysts for specific tasks or assignments. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
The preferred skills include detailed working knowledge of VM Ware, networking, and enterprise directory services such as Active Directory and OpenLDAP. Experience with the administration of NetIQ Identity Management System is a plus. In addition, experience with large scale clustered computing systems including load balancers is desired. Experience in scripting with one of more of the following: Perl, Python, Ruby, or Java is also desirable.
