Purpose

To provide journey level skilled work associated with building fire alarm systems.

Essential Functions

Performs journey level skilled level work in the maintenance and operation of fire alarm systems in campus buildings. Performs both routine and preventative maintenance on detection and alarm systems. Perform and/or assist with Fire Alarm systems inspections. Assist with fire sprinkler inspections when required. Assists with repair, replacement, upgrade and remodel of Fire Alarm systems. Assists with Fire Alarm system commissioning. Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps supervisors and team members up to date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met. Performs work from written or verbal instructions and in accordance with established safety procedures. Generates material lists and acquires materials for efficient work. Keeps accurate records of materials used and maintains daily time reports to efficiently complete work and document details of the functions performed. Keep accurate and up to date documentation of all systems. Support outages, coordinate and work with contractors and other entities and respond and give guidance to emergency personnel. Keep up to date on all code changes, testing procedures and product knowledge. Performs organizing and cleaning tasks to keep work areas safe and efficient. Cleans and keeps mechanical equipment and rooms organized. Assists other shops and team members in the accomplishment of shop goals related to key performance indicators. Participates in the On-Call Program.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned. May be required to drive University vehicle as necessary.

Required qualifications

High school or GED. Three years of journey level experience in the inspection, testing, installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of fire alarm systems, equipment, and components. NICET Level II certification or pass all testing within eighteen months and receive NICET Level II certification within two years of date of hire for Fire Alarm Systems. Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate Degree or equivalent in related technical field. More than three years of journey level experience in maintenance and testing of fire alarm systems. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Demonstrated excellent communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment. NICET Level III in Fire Alarm Systems. Successful completion of the Facilities Services and Project Management and Construction Services Leader Development program.
