This position requires professional-level skills in community education, outreach, recruitment, and promotion of the Educational Opportunity Center to help economically-disadvantaged adults pursue a post-secondary education.

Essential Functions

Conducts outreach to prospective program participants, recruits people into the program, verifies their eligibility for services, tracks their progress, and advises participants about educational options, college admission, financial aid, enrollment, and financial literacy. Communicates daily with prospective participants and representatives of community colleges, businesses, GED centers, and social service agencies. Makes presentations to large and small groups of prospective participants. Actively recruits adults into the program and verifies their eligibility under federal regulations. Provides group and individual assistance about education and career options, scholarship information, assistance completing admissions and financial aid forms, financial literacy skills, and college enrollment. Represents the EOC at college events. Track participants status and services received, completes appropriate federal reporting requirements.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in liberal arts, education, marketing/communications, student services, or related field. 3 years of professional experience working in a educational setting, including experience working with low-income adults or other related area. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree and minimum 7 years of professional experience working with people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Documented experience making successful presentations to groups. Evidence of excellent oral and written communications skills. Abilit to maintain confidentiality with respect to program information and records. Ability and willingness to work as part of a team, bilingual, English-Spanish preferred.
