Responsible for the organization, supervision and execution of a wide range of communications services including publications, marketing presentations, web site content, programs, community activities, and media relations for local, state, and national venues.

Essential Functions

Assists director of communications with overall communications function for the division, including but not limited to creating, designing, and measuring the effectiveness of communications and marketing materials, processes, and procedures. Responsible for the development, execution, writing, editing and/or proofreading of a wide range of materials including news releases, feature articles, speeches, annual reports, advertising, executive correspondence, web content, presentations and other communications materials for the media and public. Promotes news coverage of major announcements and coordinates media and public affairs such as news conferences or other events and monitors the public view of the organization. Serves as one of the principal contacts for incoming communication from the media and the general public, initiates contacts with and responses to requests from working media for story ideas and development. Serves as photographer for the division, edits photographs as needed using Photoshop, and maintains photo archives for the division. Updates Facebook, Twitter, Storify and other social media sites. Assists in monitoring public engagement on the division's social media sites and responding as needed; uses social media tools to track and evaluate communications. Assists communications team with special event implementation.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or related field. At least five years of professional experience in communications, public affairs, journalism or related field. Demonstrated ability to write and produce quality materials and content for print and online publication; photography experience. Experience in developing and managing content for an organization's online media, including websites, blogs, e-newsletters and social media sites. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while producing quality communications materials. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in higher education and academia. Strong knowledge of University of Texas at Austin and issues in higher education. Experience in video production and video storytelling. Some background in graphic design and production.
