Perform and document journey-level carpentry work in the maintenance, repair, or alteration of buildings.
Repair and install emergency exit hardware, ceiling tile, walls (sheet rock, masonry, etc.), doors, automated doors, and signage using hand and power tools such as circular saw, drill, hand tools, router, table saw, sander, grinder, nail guns, and other equipment. Also, use meters and specialty tools. Generate material lists and organize required materials for efficient work. Keep accurate records of materials used and maintain daily time reports to efficiently complete work and document details of the functions performed. Perform preventive maintenance on doors and associated hardware as well as other assigned systems. Assist other team members in the accomplishment of shop goals related to key performance indicators. Participate in the maintenance and operations of the shop. Clean and maintain tools and equipment used to perform duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment. Provide timely and courteous customer service, keep supervisors up to date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met. Work independently and as a team member. Assist other team members as necessary with training in work techniques to accomplish team goals in a safe and timely manner. Inspect the work of others for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations. Participate in the On-Call program.
Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
Other related functions as assigned. Required to drive University vehicle as necessary. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.
High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience as a carpenter or maintenance worker performing similar work identified in the essential functions listed in this posting. Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Associates degree in technical field. Completion of vocational, trade, or apprentice program in one or more journeyman trades. More than three years of experience as a journey level carpenter. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Experience in more than one craft or trade. Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment. Demonstrate excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety rules and regulations. Demonstrated ability to handle responses. Demonstrated ability to give a verbal sequence to a response.
