General Notes

40 hours, variable schedule to be determined with supervisor, overtime, weekends and holidays possible. Hiring decision contingent upon applicant clearing a security background check and receiving an acceptable driver's rating. Applications will be reviewed online by the hiring department.

Additional Information


Direct the day to day operation of the Building Operation group. Provide first level supervision for the Operations group. Perform high level administrative functions. Report activities of the group to the Operations Manager on a routine basis.

Essential Functions

Perform high level administrative task to ensure all Operators are correctly creating Service Request in FAMIS and follow up with Zone Maintenance and customers on unresolved work orders originating from Operations. Create new and update existing procedures and best practices for the Operations group. Document and ensure all Operators fully understand the procedures. Ensure all operators provide timely and courteous customer service, keep supervisors up to date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met. Communicate effectively with customers to understand their needs and expectations. Ensure all operators are reviewing assigned buildings on a regular basis to identify operational problems and identify inefficiencies. Maintain the Operations Share Point site to insure all information is accurate and up to date. Ensure all operator log entries are complete and accurate. Make sure all operators have completed all required training or are scheduled to do so. Assist Manager with on going training needs for the group. Manage the Operations work schedule to ensure university has adequate 24/7 coverage for Facilities Operations. Develop more efficient ways to improve routine tasks performed by operators.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Drive a UT vehicle to work sites on and off campus. Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

High School Graduation or GED. Three years of journey level experience in the installation, repair, maintenance and operation of HVAC building automation controls and systems, refrigeration, controls or related systems. Experience working at a facilities operations center or similar function. Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Associates degree in a related technical field or equivalent. More than three years experience of the required qualifications. Two years or more of supervisory experience. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Demonstrated excellent communication skills. Experience with computerized service request systems. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills. Professional demeanor. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the culturally and hierarchically diverse community served. Proven ability to work with a team of multi-crafted trades people. Have good writing and administrative skills. Successful completion of the Facilities Services and Project Management and Construction Services Leader Development program.
