Additional Information


Assist in the direction and management of the Fitness/Wellness Program including its programs, services, systems, policies and procedures, and resources; provide input and support to the Senior Assistant Director for Fitness/Wellness in assessing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of programs and services.

Essential Functions

Assist with the administration and coordination of the daily operations of the comprehensive Fitness/Wellness Program (Texercise, Personal Training, Group Cycling) to include: customer service, evaluation of policies and procedures, budget projections, promotions, and the maintenance, purchase and inventory of equipment. Recruit, hire, supervise, train and evaluate student staff to include group exercise instructors, personal trainers, and other part-time staff who work with the program. Assist in the pursuit of outreach and partnership opportunities within the university community to promote divisional activities and events; collaborate with both internal and external constituents to enhance program offerings, communicate important information and advance new initiatives. Plan, coordinate and implement special events to promote the fitness/wellness program. Assist with other aspects of the Fitness/Wellness Program as assigned. Attend conferences, prepare proposals and presentations, serve on committees. Maintain current certifications in the field with emphasis in fitness/wellness. Maintain personnel records, prepare payrolls, develop training materials and conduct workshops for fitness/wellness staff. Assist in the preparation of annual reports to include statistical analysis, activity assessments, and future program recommendations. Serve as a contributing member of divisional staff, attend and participate in regular staff meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Drive a University vehicle.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

Master's degree in Recreation, Exercise Physiology, Sports Administration, Student Personnel Administration or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience in personnel management. Exceptional interpersonal, leadership and motivational skills. Excellent organizational and planning skills, and written and verbal communication skills. Proficient computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

At least one year of experience administering a Fitness Wellness Program in a college-level recreational sports department, or a two-year graduate assistantship in campus recreation. Experience performing outreach and event planning. Direct experience administering one or more additional recreational sports program areas including Sport Clubs, Outdoor Rec, Instructional Programs and or Intramurals. ACSM, AFAA or ACE certification in group exercise and personal training.
