Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer. Working hours are second shift, 2:30PM - 11PM. This position will rotate weekend shifts.
Responsible for operating and monitoring computer systems and peripheral equipment within a data center environment. Inspecting and monitoring electrical and mechanical equipment that ensures the university's data center is always functional.
Helps ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of the data center. Exercises independent judgment and makes decision with some existing guidelines. Monitor and control the operation of computer systems consoles. Inspect and monitor functional working of electrical and mechanical equipment. Post and communicate outage notices. Provide support and communication to analysts, system staff and end users. Places information media into input devices. Removes and stores output. Operate check printers for output and reconciliation. Able to follow and understand standards and procedures for data center operations. Training existing and new employees.
Other related functions as assigned.
Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience in the operation of computers and auxiliary equipment. Knowledge of electronic computer operations peripheral equipment and basic computer concepts. Demonstrates listening skills and effectively communicates with customers whether in person, on the phone or in written correspondence. Demonstrates commitment to understanding and meeting customer expectations. Works independently and exercises good judgment in completing assignments. Adheres to specified work schedule, is punctual in attending appointments, and promptly responds to requests and inquiries. Recognizes what needs to be done; responds effectively and in a timely manner. Shares information with others and helps build a team atmosphere. Generates both high quality and quantity output in performing responsibilities. Demonstrates flexibility and creativity in effectively addressing both internal and external challenges. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Computer Science, Business or Technical Degree. Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Networking concepts, protocols and cabling/electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations. Ability and willingness to think outside the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with a minimal impact on reliability. Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Windows, UNIX and/or Mainframe platforms or experience with scripting/programming languages. Certification in A+.
