The position is a 10 month position. Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 11:30am-8:30pm; off Saturday and Sunday. Time off without pay will be discussed during time of interview. Dates change each year based upon the calendar and the needs of the university and Division of Housing and Food Service. Candidate selected must provide verification of education and/or experience.
To assist with the food service operation in the Jester Dining Service on the second floor.
Prepare and serve food during the time the dining area is open. Complete paperwork related to food production, monitor and record food temperatures; assist in enforcing sanitation and food safety. Greet and interact with customers. Set up, stock, break down of serving lines. Clean and replenish the serving area during the time the dining area is open, including some food preparation. Short order cooking according to recipes and forecast. Serve food on serving lines while dining area is open. Responsible for waste log. Break down and clean all equipment. Properly store, label and date left over food items from the serving line and dining area using the FIFO system to ensure proper rotation of food items.

Experience following basic work instructions. Experience preparing and assisting in the preparation of food. Experience preparing food in a commercial establishment. Experience providing service in a food service facility. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
High School Diploma or GED. One year or more experience in the preparation of food in a fast paced/high volume unit serving 1000+ patrons per meal, preferably with the Division of Housing and Food Service, including receiving, stocking dry items, and frozen merchandise. Demonstrate the ability to coach staff in their duties, able to multi-task and work with little supervision. Experience working with commercial kitchen equipment and working back and front of the house demonstrating short order cooking and customer skills. Demonstrate the ability to receive, respond, and follow through with written and oral University and Division of Housing and Food Service policies, procedures and work related instructions from supervisors, customers, and co-workers. Excellent interpersonal communication, customer service skills and a professional demeanor. Ability to exhibit professional demeanor and ability to deal with a diverse staff and customer base. Have and maintain a Serv Safe Certificate or a current Travis County Food Handlers Card.
