Purpose

The Assistant Director of Multimedia develops and executes compelling strategic content in a variety of media, which support and communicate the top priorities of the University. The Assistant Director assists the Director of Multimedia with day-to-day operations of the unit and serves as a key project manager.

Essential Functions

Create original journalistic, documentary, narrative-based multimedia content for use in a variety of formats i.e., video presentations, Web and online media, social media, external media, other high-priority specialty applications. Develop projects in a highly collaborative, strategic, creative driven environment designed to support key messaging related to integrated marketing, media and public relations, fundraising, recruitment, special events, and student experience and success. Utilize leading industry software programs for video, design, and image manipulation to achieve professionally executed, brand-integrated solutions such as Apple Final Cut Pro Studio and Adobe Creative Suite. Maintain consistently high quality standards on all productions. Create storyboards and project work plans, help write and edit scripts, and seek appropriate approval and input at key points prior to, and during, all phases of production. Schedule and scout locations, maintain contacts and resources for talent selection. Is abreast of relevant University events for coverage and documentary opportunities, identify and suggest opportunities for content and coverage. Conduct required research such as personal interviews and other background techniques to obtain information to develop concepts. Conduct video interviews with faculty, staff, students, and alumni and help direct video and photo shoots. Make technical and creative decisions regarding such elements as lighting, shooting angles, lens selection, exposure, placement and type of microphones, locations, use of movement and interview style, and participate in projects? visual and audio development. Support strategic project planning/organization for multimedia projects. Often work independently on assigned projects and ensure collaboration of staff to marshal necessary resources to create, fully execute, and deliver/launch final projects. Serve as account manager on assigned projects, meeting with senior leadership, vice presidents, deans, and/or their representatives to ensure that expectations, including critical deadlines, are met. Create detailed project reports, time sheets, video and photo activity logs, communicate updates/status of projects to administrative teams. Proactively communicate with fellow workers and departmental supervisors on progress of projects and keep Dir. of Multimedia apprised of challenges, problems, successes and design alterations that may be encountered. Assess equipment maintenance needs. Develop set-up schematics, perform production duties, and manage digital media and photography library. Work closely with Design staff (via Art Director) to ensure integration of various design objectives and to develop creative, compelling visual solutions. Provide technical support for a variety of projects across multiple platforms (print, digital, online, live performance). Work closely with staff photographers, videographers, graphic and Web designers, editors, and media relations officers to coordinate/integrate media solutions/applications into University Communications activities. Work in a large Macintosh networked, team-based environment to share and account for all project resources, be accountable for a variety of digital assets management solutions. Keep abreast of rapidly evolving technology and media platforms, video formats, and keep current on training for all technical aspects of the various software, hardware and processes for multimedia production and online communication.

Required qualifications

Baccalaureate degree, with a concentration in journalism, photography, television production, multimedia production, or related field. Minimum of five years of experience in a professional media production environment. Proficiency with Apple Final Cut Pro Studio and Adobe Creative Suite. Requires strong multifaceted project management skills and ability to effectively shape creative solutions across multiple and evolving platforms. Preferred Qualifications

Previous work experience at a video production facility, advertising agency, corporate or institutional in-house organization, or higher education in-house creative team is desirable. Demonstrates strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate and manage the interest of multiple stakeholders. Must also be versatile and knowledgeable in all forms of photographic media. Must demonstrate clear and accurate written communication skills. A strong focus on attention to detail is essential. The ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to changing priorities, direction, and deadlines is essential. The ability to think creatively, solve problems, plan directions, overcome obstacles and successfully negotiate with individuals and groups is essential. Candidate must be self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team-environment.
