To provide and apply high level networking expertise for the operation and ongoing development of the University data network.
Make data center network architectural decisions in close collaboration with other senior network engineers in ITS Networking. Direct research, testing, and implementation of data center network architectures. Train other members of ITS networking on new networking technologies. Perform high level consulting and troubleshooting for ITS and Unit system administrators, including admins for critical ITS central services. Provide 24x7x365 support to meet stated up-time objectives for university data centers, including off/after hours support. Respond to data center customer networking issues and requests.
Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
Other related functions as assigned.
Enterprise network operations experience as well as enterprise data center network operations experience. Demonstrated experience with large scale enterprise networks, including medium to large data center networks, typically acquired by a minimum of three years of full-time related experience. Experience with Cisco Systems switches and routers (Cisco IOS). Experience with TCP/IP, routing/switching concepts, and common routing protocols. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Bachelor's degree in a related field. A combination of four years of experience with large scale, enterprise networks (switches/routers) including medium to large data center networks. Demonstrated experience in: data center network architecture and best practices (3 years); customer support and service (3 yrs); Cisco routing and switching as well as Cisco data center class switching and routing (Nexus NX-OS) (3+ years); system administration (2 years); open source network management tools and network management tool development (2 yrs); software development (1 year); and Microsoft/Apple/Linux (2 years). Higher education work experience.
