Normal work schedule is Monday thru Friday. Rotating weekend schedule. Location and hours may change based on staffing needs of the Division of Housing and Food Service. Position requires stair climbing due to some buildings not having elevators. References must be professional references able to verify previous work experience. Selected candidate must provide verification of experience/education.
To perform work of custodial maintenance in Division of Housing and Food Service Residence Halls.
Clean, dust and service bathrooms, lobby areas, stairwells, hallways and student rooms. Transport and carry supplies, linen, and other items as required. Respond and follow through with written and oral University and Division of Housing and Food Service policies, procedures, and work related instructions from supervisors and team leaders, communicate with co-workers and residents. Remove trash from building and take to trash compactor/container outside. Vacuum, shampoo, and extract carpets. Strip, mop, and wax floors. Move and arrange furniture. Work in a diverse environment, encourages and promotes diversity.
Other related functions as assigned.
Six months experience in custodial maintenance. Experience following basic work instructions. Six months experience using carpet care equipment. Six months experience with floor care. Six months experience using custodial equipment. Six months experience in building cleaning and custodial work. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
High school graduation or GED. More than one year of janitorial experience in a large institution. More than one year of experience with vacuum cleaners, buffers, and floor machines. More than one year of experience stripping and refinishing vinyl tile floors. Experience in building services at the University of Texas. Experience working in a conference setting. Demonstrated ability to receive, respond, and follow through with verbal work related instructions from supervisors, customers, and co-workers. Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
