Under the general direction of the Fire Marshal - Provide professional management in planning, budgeting, scheduling and programming the upgrade of existing fire protections systems and installation of new fire protection systems.
Reviews and monitors construction projects/renovations. Reviews plans and prints; generates review documents, recommendations and guidelines based on regulatory best practices and standards. Develops and implements life safety and construction guidance procedures. Conducts fire safety inspections of buildings, off-site facilities, equipment. Performs violation/hazards record keeping of inspections for repair/renovation program. Interprets project and program data. Ensures compliance to Fire and Life Safety Management Plan. Conducts training of faculty, staff and students involving fire drills, fire safety equipment, establishment of fire warden responsibility, student counseling, and occupant fire safety.
Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
Other related functions as assigned.
A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field and/or equivalent experience/training. NICET certifications in Fire Alarm Systems, Water-Based (formerly Automatic Sprinkler System) Layout, and/or Special Hazards Suppression Systems. Six years experience managing projects with minimal supervision and coordinating with all project stakeholders. Additional experience, at a senior level, in the management of fire protection system construction projects. Demonstrated familiarity with materials and methods of institutional design and construction, including laboratories, classrooms, faculty offices, and other University facilities. Certified by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) as a Certified Fire Protection Specialist or eligible for certification to be obtained within one year of employment.
Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas with five years of experience working as a Fire Protection Engineer. Experience with specification review, design and commissioning of smoke management and fire alarm systems. Experience with interpreting data, providing technical reports, and reviewing technical information to achieve and maintain fire and life safety compliance. Experience as a team member. Experience in building plans and print review, and fire code interpretation. Demonstrated computer literacy including use of word processing, database and spreadsheet programs. NFPA 101 Life Safety Code certification.
