The work schedule may be adjusted due to University and building schedules or departmental needs. Working more than 40 hours per week, and on weekends or holidays may be required as needed.
This position will assist in leading a team of Mech/Techs to serve the maintenance needs of the department, and will primarily serve as the kitchen equipment repair-person.
Assist in leading a team of Mechanic/Technicians for daily tasks and serve as the acting supervisor in the absence of the Mechanic/Technician supervisor. Repair commercial kitchen equipment with particular experience in electrical and plumbing work. Repair furniture, plaster walls and walls with ceramic tiles. Use a personal computer for official communication, timekeeping and tracking of work and work orders. General maintenance and repair (carpentry, masonry, electrical and plumbing) for the department. Keep track of tools and inventory them. Responsible for keeping the maintenance shop clean and safe. Drive a department vehicle as needed for errands and material pick-up.
Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
Other related functions as assigned.
High school graduation or GED. Five years of experience in maintenance and repair in a crafts trade or facilities maintenance. A combination of three years of journey level experience in electrical, plumbing or carpentry. Experience working with electronics, electronics repair or in the repair of commercial kitchen appliances. Experience in commercial building construction, particularly with building materials and blueprints. One year of experience in an electrical trade. Experience with safety and handling of heavy and light, indoor and outdoor tools and equipment. Experience with environmental and HAZMAT safety. Experience using a personal computer. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Supervisory experience. Compliance knowledge of Federal, State and University regulations and codes. Working in a higher education environment. Experience and knowledge of Fire and Safety codes and regulations. Familiar with current residential and commercial building codes. Experience using a Macintosh computer. Demonstrated ability to follow through with tasks to successful completion with minimal supervision, using good judgement. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines and accomplish details of several project concurrently. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Experience working cooperatively in a team environment. Ability to speak, read and understand English; and speak, read and understand Spanish.
