Purpose

Perform general grounds maintenance and apartment cleaning at the University Apartments.

Essential Functions

Maintain grounds including trimming shrubs and trees; and equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and chain saws. Pick-up trash. Strip, wax, sweep, and mop floors. Perform other cleaning in University Apartments. Perform and/or assist Mechanic Technician in the repairs of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, carpentry, general labor and other trades as needed or qualified. Stock supplies in shop. Sweep shop. Clean machine rooms and/or performs routine custodial duties. Deliver or move furniture,equipment and materials. Set up bleachers, tables and chairs for events. Drive a UT Vehicle. Work with herbicides and insecticides. Transport crews to and from work sites and picks up supplies needed by crews and transports them to job site. Provides preventive maintenance. Communication: Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Ability to communicate with supervisor, staff and student residents and their families. Ability to work as a team member. Diversity/Professional Development: Works in a diverse environment. Encourage and support division and apartment diversity initiatives. Promotes professional development of self to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training. Performs other duties as assigned. Arrives to work on time. Schedules time off for vacation or sick leave per University policies.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. One year of experience as a laborer. Experience following basic work instructions. Experience in unskilled manual work. One year experience in grounds care and maintenance. Experience using lawn care equipment. Candidate selected must provide verification of education and/or experience. Licenses Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Applicant selected must have an acceptable 3 year driving record and maintain an acceptable driving record and valid license throughout employment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than a year of experience in building custodial and commercial grounds keeping work. Experience in the repair and maintenance of grounds keeping equipment. Experience working with herbicides and insecticides. Knowledge of safe work place practices. Good communication skills. Demonstrated stable work experience.
