To provide professional and administrative skills in public affairs, media relations, journalism, and community relations for the Department of Communications at McCombs School of Business.

Essential Functions

Responsible for the organization, supervision and execution of a wide range of publicity materials and community activities for local, state, and national audiences. Researches, develops, and writes stories, articles, advisories and other materials using various media sources. Gathers and assembles background information for publications and reporters. Verifies all material for accuracy and appropriateness of presentation. Participates in the planning, communication, and coordination of community relation efforts and special projects or events, including the Texas Enterprise Speaker Series. Uses social media to expand visibility of press releases and published stories from and Performs related duties as assigned, including administrative support of office activities such as meeting planning, purchasing, and scheduling.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, English, Journalism or related field. Two years of experience in public affairs (or comparable experience) including media relations, journalism, coordination of special events, social media, and preparation of informational materials. Experienced with the use of a content management system for website posting, such as Drupal, SiteCore or Wordpress. Ability to interact in a professional manner with faculty, staff, students and the public. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Independent decision making and problem solving ability. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
