Offers of employment are contingent upon the availability of funding. Positions available in Central Texas, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley. Position begins in July. Position may be extended for one additional year based on funding and employee performance. This is a Field Staff position which requires working at an off-site location. This is an 11-month position.
To assist Texas high school students plan, apply, and enroll in colleges and universities that will serve them well, as an adviser with the Advise TX College Advising Corps.
Provide one-on-one admissions and financial-aid advice to any student or family seeking assistance within the assigned high school. Organize, create, and lead group presentations that encourage students and their families to consider, plan for, and apply to colleges and universities. Advise students at one-on-one meetings, presentations, group events, and college fairs and visits. Work alongside principals, counselors, teachers, and school staff in the assigned high school. Work with school administrators and staff to further support or to establish a college going culture in the assigned high school. Maintain expertise in college admissions and financial-aid advising. Participate in local, state, and/or national professional development and trainings. Assist in the efforts of other Advise Texas adviser(s) within the service area. Assist with data collection and analysis. Assist in the assessment and long-term sustainability of the program. Provide timely written and verbal communication and reports to Advise Texas management.

Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin awarded in 2012 (December/May) or will be awarded in May 2013. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Experience with public speaking and preparation of presentations. Professional demeanor and appearance. Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office. Experience with event planning. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, and ability to work independently or in a team-oriented environment under strict deadlines.
Experience working with college age or high school students. Bilingual--Spanish.
