Work hours to be arranged between 7am and 11pm, to set up and take down experiments or laboratory activities; and some weekends and holidays, as needed - not to exceed 40 hrs per week.
To assist in setting up and preparing the School of Biological Sciences class laboratories for undergraduate laboratory courses.
Setting up, taking down and organizing laboratory equipment. Preparing media and solutions. Working with chemical and biohazard waste. Maintaining and cleaning of glassware and equipment. Overseeing work performance of student employees. Evaluating and optimizing laboratory procedures. Resolving problems with equipment. Procuring lab equipment and materials. Caring of animals and various microscopic organisms.
Other related functions as assigned.
Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
High school graduation or GED. For students-in-research, graduate standing. Experience - for graduate students, none; and for full-time University employees, minimum of two years of experience in a natural science or engineering field or a technical laboratory. Ability to communicate effectively. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Completion of some biology college course work or Biology Degree. Three years of experience in a biological laboratory setting. Supervisory experience. Responsible individual with good judgment and interpersonal communication skills.
