Purpose

Monitor and assist with the security and protection of university buildings and properties. Provide friendly and quality information to students, employees, and visitors to The University of Texas at Austin.

Essential Functions

Monitor and assist with the security and protection of university buildings and properties. Provide friendly and quality information to students, employees, and visitors to The University of Texas at Austin. Complete written reports and monitors security sensitive equipment. May occasionally direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Must be familiar with UTPD policies and procedures and be able to apply them in the field. Driving a UT vehicle required on occasion.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Stable work history. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Must be able to stand or walk several hours each day and able to work in all weather conditions. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation. Must be able to provide credible testimony in a court of law. Licenses: possess a Texas Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

One or more years of experience as a security guard or police officer. Two years of college level education. Experience operating a hand held radio. Familiar with police operations. Bilingual English/Spanish.

Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished) May work in all weather conditions May work in extreme temperatures May work around standard office conditions Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Use of manual dexterity Climbing of stairs Lifting and moving Mandatory overtime. Able to work extended hours (during special events, etc.) other than normal working hours. Irregular shifts, weekends and holidays. Physical effort required. Able to stand or walk for up to 16 hrs. Lift up 50 lbs.
