To provide technical skills in the preparation and use of programs and web-based solutions for researchers and staff at the Bureau of Economic Geology.

Essential Functions

Create, modify and maintain web-based pages, applications and APIs using programming languages such as PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and SQL. Design, implement, and maintain databases such as console-based MySQL and Microsoft Access. Define and analyze computational and information management needs. Study and modify existing programs and information systems to meet the needs of the department. Write new programs and structure data formats. Develop test data and routines and run test programs. Correct errors and verify machine-computed answers. Document program procedures and formats. Check programs for proper performance. Prepare program instructions for use by users or computer operators. Advise and assist researchers and staff members in analyzing and defining problems for computer solutions, methods of approach, selection or modification of programs, and in correcting programming errors. May have responsibility for scheduling and meeting project deadlines.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering. Three years of experience in computer systems design and analysis. Proficiency with PHP and JavaScript, particularly JQuery and JSON, HTML, CSS, SQL. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than the required education and experience. Experience in using web-based programming and languages, especially server-side applications. Experience in website and web application design and development. Proficiency in database system design, development and maintenance. Experience working with e-commerce applications. Experience with graphics creation and manipulation. Experience with web server software and configuration. Proficiency in database design, implementation and maintenance, and functional knowledge of console-based MySQL. Proficiency with MS Access and MS Word automation as well as ActiveDirectory over LDAP. Familiarity and experience working with e-commerce applications and MVC framework. Experience with PrestaShop. Experience with WordPress development.
