To provide advanced skills of a technical or statistical nature in the preparation, development, and editing of a variety of materials using specialized terminology and equipment. Responsible for coordinating media and web development services related to engineering and scientific journals and publications.

Essential Functions

Technical Writer: Prepares complex mathematical equations, specialized tables, engineering and scientific terminology, chemical notations and similar technical materials for the productions of charts, graphs, and administrative, fiscal, and/or statistical reports. Manages the production and development of activities to electronically input, edit, store, retrieve, format, print, and accumulate a variety of documents, reports, brochures, books, and PowerPoint presentations. Web Design and Layout: Ensures that online productions and publications conform to internal quality standards and university publishing policies. Solves technical and production problems. Facilitates strategic planning regarding the design, upkeep, and application of online educational content. Responsible for the design and implementation of PowerPoint presentations and maintaining all website pages. DEFINE: Oversees Coding for the department. Prepares monthly reports related to departmental activity. Perform complex, technical, and specialized office support work with DEFINE. Administrative: Responsible for administrative support and management of departmental administrative, technical services, and special projects. Manage administrative details for policy process activities and account management. Develop and maintain reports for budgets, prepare correspondence, reports, forms, vouchers, work orders, and specialized documents.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Two years of clerical experience, including one year of technical and statistical writing experience. Two years of publishing, media design and/or production and editing experience. Experience in maintaining technical and statistical data, generating reports, and analyzing data for publication as needed at the college/school level. Experience in working with senior level administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Excellent customer service skills and experience working with a diverse group of internal and external constituents including working with international students and researchers at the graduate level. Experience using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint), FileMaker Pro, Adobe, Outlook, and DEFINE. Excellent organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, independent decision making and problem solving abilities. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. More than the required experience and qualifications. Experience in a supervisory capacity. Excellent cross-cultural communication skills with experience in public speaking and delivering presentations. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively; work as a team member or independently; work well under pressure of deadlines; manage complex concurrent projects and diverse groups in a professional manner. Familiarity with the University of Texas at Austin, its policies and procedures. Experience in media production activities related to online educational, engineering, and/or scientific content. Website management: redesign, manage and maintain websites, continuously update all content and graphics. Experience with Internet browsers, web interfaces, and photo editing software, and online educational applications and tools. Experience with Drop box, Zotero, Cognos8, and BibTex.
