Additional Information

Purpose

Individual will join the Advanced Computing Interfaces group of the Texas Advanced Computing Center. Position will move beyond basic web development and start building advanced web components that can be readily composed into powerful applications that really make an impact on the state of science in the world.

Essential Functions

Participate in the design and development of web components leading to a platform for building powerful web applications. Work will enable the computational scientists of the world to more easily make the leap to discovery using our high performance computing infrastructure through intelligent interfaces. Interact and collaborate with researchers at UT and nationally to build a better platform for web-based science. Research technologies and ideas for their applicability to projects. Perform maintenance and provide support to software deployed in a production environment. Publicize the results of activities through presentations at conferences and workshops, and through publications in conference proceedings and professional journals.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information science, mathematics, or a computational science or engineering discipline. Four years of experience in the field of research. Must have experience with the following web friendly languages including JavaScript, PHP, Java, Python and using RESTful web services. Candidate needs experience working with distributed systems and cloud services. Candidate must have experience with relational and nonrelational database technologies including MySQL, PostGres, CouchDB, CouchBase, MongoDB. Candidate required to have experience with unit testing, modern source control practices (git, svn), and build systems (make, ant, maven, grunt.js). Candidate must communicate well in person, over email and instant messenger. Candidate needs demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills and professional demeanor. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

We are looking for a talented and inspired individual interested in contributing to building a web platform that will enable scientific discoveries that change the world. The ideal candidate will have advanced courses leading to a Master's degree or Ph.D. degree in computer science, information science, mathematics, or a computational science or engineering discipline. In addition, the candidate will have experience with Scala, experience with CMS and development platforms such as Liferay, Drupal, Wordpress, CakePHP, Joomla, Backbone.js and experience with responsive design.
