Additional Information

Purpose

Sustain and maintain mainframe systems. Analyze, design, and develop methodologies to move systems off the mainframe to more standard open source technologies. Infrastructure and operations Web-based applications support for the Center for Teaching and Learning.

Essential Functions

Maintain current mainframe applications and software that support Computer-Based Testing, Course Instructor Survey, and Classroom Scanning programs. Conduct a full range of programming tasks including analysis, coding, and debugging of complex program logic. Develop interactive and Web-based media technologies. Research, develop, and deploy new IT solutions based on business requirements to satisfy existing and future software needs of the unit or organization. Recommend improvements to processing work flows and business practices to maximize effectiveness of users and work unit. Respond to IT related requests from UT staff and administrators, effectively interpret and communicate technical solutions to users. Engage in professional development training on new technologies to stay current in field.

Required qualifications

Minimum of 1 year experience programming in Natural/WebAgent environment. Experience with Python/Django, batch processing, Natclipse. Demonstrated ability to analyze, test, and debug complex code. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Knowledge of UT course structure. Successful completion of UT analyst training program. Familiarity with version control, software development process management and issue tracking tools. Experience with or interest in high-level languages and web frameworks (like Ruby on Rails). Experience with Credit By Exam, Course Instructor Survey, or Classroom Scanning. Familiarity with Oracle and/or MySQL databases. Experience with JavaScript, jQuery, ColdFusion, UT XML Gateway, and Python Production Environment (PyPE) at UT Austin. Knowledge and experience in the development of interactive and Web-based media using ColdFusion, Microsoft Access, MySQL, HTML, and CSS.
