General Notes

This position starts in August, 2013. This position is wholly funded by outside grants, and is subject to continued funding. Successful applicant must provide their own transportation to a middle school in Austin ISD, Taylor ISD, or another school district within 45 minutes of Austin. Actual work schedule will depend on the school's schedule.

Purpose

Provide reading comprehension and social studies content acquisition intervention in a small group setting to struggling middle school readers.

Essential Functions

Use research-based materials to provide an instructional reading and content-acquisition intervention for qualifying middle school students of U.S. History. Participate in trainings and meetings with other intervention personnel. Review and administer materials for intervention. Compile intervention data gathered from instructional sessions. Administer standardized tests to students.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field. Four years of experience teaching U.S. History at the Middle or High School level. Two years of experience tutoring struggling learners individually or in small groups. Current Texas Teacher Certification. Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communications. Professional demeanor. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Education or a related field. Eight or more years of experience teaching U.S. History at the Middle or High School level.

May work around standard office conditions Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Use of manual dexterity Constant exposure to flourescent lighting in a windowless work environment. Constant exposure to the Central Texas public (possibly rural) Middle School environment.
