Responsible for supervision of all stack maintenance activities for the main stacks collection.

Essential Functions

Works closely with the Circulation Day Supervisor in developing service objectives and planning goals and special projects for stack maintenance. Supervises the timely return of materials to shelves, shelf reading, shifting, and will collect and report statistics. Supervises the Stacks Assistant and student workers, does primary training, scheduling, and evaluating. In consultation with the Circulation Day Supervisor or Associate Director, hires and terminates student assistants. Plans, monitors and adjusts workflow for stacks work. Maintains PC-based, students financial statistics, hours worked, and schedules. Responsible for manning the Circulation Desk for up to two hours each day, charging and discharging materials, collecting fines, providing general patron assistance. Responsible for book drop activities on assigned day or as needed. May assist with opening/closing the building. Must be able to operate library alarms, security, elevator, and lighting systems as necessary. Serves on committees as needed.

Required qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree. Two years of related experience to the statement of duties and responsibilities. Must meet basic computer competencies. Demonstrated organizational ability. Accuracy and attention to detail and mathematical ability. Good written and oral communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to interact successfully with all segments of the university community, library staff, and community users. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Library experience with shelving and stack maintenance. Library experience, especially in a circulation department. Training and evaluating of staff or student assistants. Experience with automated library systems or PC-based work. Problem solving abilities. Some microcomputer skills, especially word processing and/or spreadsheet, familiarity desirable. Bilingual ability, Spanish-English.

Working conditions

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Must have the physical ability to do stack maintenance tasks: including pushing of book trucks, lifting, bending and stooping. Must be able to stand at service counter for 2-3 hours at a time.
