As a key member of the university's leadership team, the Associate Vice President has overall responsibility for developing and sustaining progressive and responsive human resources policies, programs, and services for more than 3,000 faculty and staff.
The Associate Vice President will play an instrumental role in supporting the university's continued growth in its externally funded research portfolio and academic programs, provide institutional leadership and service to develop and sustain human resources programs and policies that are best in class, and that support of the University of Texas at El Paso's goals to become the first national research university serving a 21st century student population. Through the development and ongoing assessment of programs, policies, systems, and services, the Associate Vice President is charged with ensuring that human resources policies and programs foster an inclusive and rewarding work life for the successful recruitment and retention of faculty and staff. The Associate Vice President is responsible for staff pay and classification, administering faculty and staff benefits, employee relations, human resource information systems (PeopleSoft implementation), performance management, talent/leadership development, workforce planning, workers compensation, absence/level management, and compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations.

Bachelors degree with at least 10 years of progressive human resources experience at a senior management level in a large, complex, high volume environment, preferably within a national research university. The Associate Vice President for Human Resources is required to have an executive presence and be a self-assured leader prepared to develop creative approaches to the advancement of the university's goals through its human resources. Demonstrated management success leading change and creating high performing organizations, in addition to superb communication and interpersonal skills, opportunistic creativity, and flexibility are also required. A bachelors degree and significant related experience may be considered in lieu of a graduate or professional degree.
An advanced degree in a related field and ERP implementation experience is desirable.
