Performs moderately complex engineering work. Provides engineering support on systems, system elements and interfacing systems.
Directs and coordinates activities of engineering and/or technical personnel designing, fabricating, modifying and testing of systems (i.e. HVAC, electrical, thermal, Building Automation Systems (BAS), water, steam lines and mechanical systems). Designs and produces Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P/ID) and Protective and Control Drawings (P/CD) for building and research support systems. Reviews, modifies and operates Building Automation System (BAS) to design, test and implement changes to equipment to achieve energy savings. Monitors, edits and sets up Siemens Insight system, Siemens Infocenter, Remote Notifications (RENO) Alarm Systems, Square D SCADA, Simplex Fire Alarm System, motion controls and others. Must be able to understand the application and calculate and implement PID control schemes. Applies engineering disciplines to support, design, develop and implement systems for SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) operation activities. Assists in definition, trade-off and design activity. Manages small-scale construction projects. Formulates conceptual design, reviews, evaluates and analyzes different system (HVAC, electrical, thermal, building automation, etc.) to meet customer requirements. Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost and maintenance requirements of designs and applications. Specifies systems' components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. Prepares documentation containing information such as confidential descriptions and specifications of proprietary hardware and software, product development, introduction schedules and product costs. Provides information on product performance weaknesses. Researches, designs, evaluates, installs, operates, and maintains mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements applying knowledge of engineering principles. Prepares reviews and evaluates documentation, specifications, test plans and procedures. Analyzes testing results. Assists in definition, analysis and allocation of system's requirements. Develops and designs systems using drafting tools, computer-assisted design (CAD) or other drafting equipment and software. Conducts research that test and analyze the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems. Conducts analysis of requirements and components, and supports audits conducted to ensure intended functionality and performance is achieved. Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and makes recommendations to maintenance crew. Creates and implements maintenance plan for equipment. Diagnoses, isolates, and corrects problems to component level to restore systems' functions. Provides technical support and instruction to staff or customers regarding equipment and operation standards. Assists with specific, difficult in-service engineering tasks. Inspects electronic equipment, instruments, products and systems (electrical, valves, meters, sensors, etc.) to ensure conformance to specifications, safety standards and applicable codes and regulations. Conducts installation and maintenance of systems/equipment and provides associated training to customers and personnel. Confers with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions and provide technical information. Determines material/supplies/equipment needs. Evaluates operational systems, prototypes and proposals and recommend repair or design modifications based on factors such as environment, service, cost and system capabilities. Writes technical reports and other documentation such as handbooks and bulletins for use by staff,management and customers. Reviews performance reports/documentation from customers and field engineers, and inspect malfunctioning or damage products to determine problem using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methods and principles. Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports. May be required to work holidays and weekends. Must be available on an "On Call basis. Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems. Complies with all State and University policies.
Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Minimum Education required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Minimum Experience required: Four years of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. General working knowledge of industry practices, standards and technology areas. Works under general supervision, follows established procedures, and solves routine problems in the engineering discipline. Must be able to support a 24/7 operation. Minimal travel is required.
Master's Degree preferred.
