Purpose

Provide high-level design solutions for a variety of integrated communications projects across multiple media platforms with strong emphasis on online and electronic solutions i.e., branding, design development, and technical implementation of the University's Web site as well as other online, print and video projects.

Essential Functions

Designs innovative and comprehensive visual and functional solutions for new and current Web sites. Develops functional micro-site environments, online promotions, ad banners, e-newsletters, e-invites, interactive applications and other online interfaces. Shepherds design and review process from wireframes and storyboards to digital presentation comps to final executed products. Helps develop coherent information architecture and navigation systems for complex, multi-level sites with multiple sections and cross-linking pages. Utilizes best-case design and usability practices to enhance the end-user interface experience. Ensures projects incorporate all stakeholder requirements, employs best practices in user interface, navigation, usability, accessibility, search engine optimization, and works in all browser platforms (for both PC and Mac). Collaborates closely with other Web developers and Web specialists on implementing static and interactive designs. Assist in content development and visual management for the University's top-tier Web pages and all assigned accounts. Monitor websites for outdated information, expired pages, broken links, and technical problems. Design and produces graphics, templates, illustrations, icons, and other artwork for use in related communication projects (Web, publications, environmental graphics, video, etc). Follows defined branding guidelines as required. Follows project specifications and adheres to production schedules and budgets for all assigned projects. Creates and updates documentation relating to project status, process, location of media assets and use. Stays abreast of current trends in Web design, usability and information architecture, including current and evolving aesthetics with demonstrated mastery of typography, color theory and use of space.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Fine Arts, Web Design or related field including a formal training background in design. 5 years of experience in a professional environment designing websites and other related communications products and a strong online portfolio available for review. Preferred Qualifications

Strong visual and verbal communications skills. Working knowledge and demonstrated practical ability in contemporary coding solutions such as XHTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, XML/XSL, and responsive web design for mobile websites. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and conversion of print-developed graphics formats for integrated use across web and electronic media. Experience with content management systems (CMS), especially Cascade Server, strongly preferred. Basic knowledge of dynamic scripting languages and databases such as PHP and MySQL. Experience with social media and mobile applications. Knowledge of search engine optimization and web analytic tools. Understanding of contemporary web design trends as well as the techniques and the technical and functional processes required to execute them, including cross-browser and cross-device compatibility. Comfortable in a fast-paced, fast-changing creative environment, with matrix management. Effective experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders, content producers and other web developers. Experience working at higher education institution, in-house corporate creative team, or professional advertising or design agency type environment.
